Notes:
- CCM returns to the rear of Hawks jerseys, this time just on the whites and instead of the hem, the manufacturer logos are now featured on the back of the neck area. Koho appears on the backs of the reds and black sets. The Hockey Company had a league-wide contract for jerseys from 2000-2004 and did all team’s jerseys. They owned both the CCM & Koho brands.
- The crest on the 00-01 jerseys had a slightly thicker boarder than the following seasons.
- The Hawks wore the 75th patch to commemorate their 75th anniversary.
- The NHL shield remained on the rear hem and the team marked the set numbers behind them. The alternate black jerseys did not have anything written behind the shield.
- Most of the set 2 home & road jerseys had the 75th patches removed and were used in the 01-02 preseason. The patches were then resewn on the jerseys when sold through Hawkquarters. Some of these patch reattachments caused damage to the jerseys, some needing sew repairs. Due to the patch removal & reattachment, the set 1 jerseys are somewhat more desirable.
- On 11/11/2000, the Blackhawks played the Maple Leafs in Toronto for the Hockey Hall of Fame (HHOF) game. Each team wore a patch during the game to honor the new inductees into the HHOF, including Hawks legend Denis Savard. After the game, the patches were removed and the set 1 red jerseys continued to be worn through the end of their set. These patches were retained by the team and over the years a few made it into the collecting hobby. With the exception of the Eric Daze that went to the HHOF, any jersey seen with the 2000 HHOF patch has had it reattached after the jersey was sold by the team.
- The black alternate was worn for 15 games in 00-01.
- LOA’s were issued and these were originally sold via Hawkquarters.
- Starting in 92-93 and continuing to 02-03, the Hawks LOA's contained the phrasing "This letter certifies that your jersey is an authentic game jersey issued to...". This phrasing has caused quite a bit of confusion to collectors as a Game Issued jersey is considered to be a jersey made up by the team, but not worn by the player. In this case, the Blackhawks are not using this phrasing in that manner, they are simply stating this is the jersey they gave to the player to use. The term Game Issued was likely not even known to whomever wrote the letter template. All the letters in this era contained this phrasing, so a 30+ repair jersey had it as well as a light wear jersey worn once.
- 00-01 was the first season that the league had all the team captains wear a Hockey Fights Cancer (HFC) patch for one game. Those jerseys were then auctioned off on NHL.com with the proceeds going to the HFC charity. Tony Amonte's jersey was patched on Jan 19, 2001 and later auctioned. This practiced continued from 00-01 to 03-04, then again in 07-08.
- The ‘price tags’ appeared on the inside of the jerseys, but with the numbers in a different order than 98-99. These tags, looking like an old price gun sticker, were taped in the jerseys behind the rear numbers. The tags were placed there by the team’s letterer, City Sports Lettering. On them is a numeric code that helps to identify what the jersey is. In 99-00, the code began with the year followed by the jersey number: “99009222” translates to 9900 (99-00 season) 92 (player number - Nylander) 2 (1=white, 2=red, 3=alt) 2 (set 2). These tags sometimes fell out of the jerseys due to washing, or in some instances cut out by the team with a razor blade. In either case, the square piece of tape remains with a price sticker-sized hole in the middle.
- Three neck tagging variations have been seen as well as two hip tagging variations.
- 00-01 featured a Shirt Off Their Back Night (SOTB) or Fan Appreciation Night jersey being given out to ‘random’ attendees of the last home game of the season. This practice continued until the early 2010’s. In some years, the jersey contained special tagging, but the 00-01 jerseys had no special tagging. In all letters that have surfaced that came with these jerseys, they are worded “Congratulations on winning…” rather than “Congratulations on purchasing…”. The Hawks typically wore a new set of jerseys for the SOTB promotions, although there may have been a season or two where they were worn longer.
- Hawkquarters began their practice of selling “Locker Room Jerseys” around this time. If there were jerseys that originated from the Hawks locker room, but they were not sure what set it was part of, or if it was a backup jersey, etc, it was sold without an LOA at a discount. Some great deals came out of the Locker Room section as many had solid wear and were later photomatched.
