Notes:
- All NHL teams wore a “75th” patch to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the NHL.
- The first set of jerseys worn were recycled from 90-91 and have the remnants of the 90-91 all-star patch visible behind the NHL 75th patch, in essence a ring of glue which is visible above and below the 75th patch. This and for the following 2 years is referred to as a ‘glue set’, since the remnant of the previous year’s patch is visible. The team recycled jerseys regularly from 90-94 until the Ultrafil jerseys were no longer used. Some jerseys have evidence of multiple patches removed.
- To celebrate the 75th anniversary season, all of the Original Six teams wore TBTC alternates at certain points of the year featuring the NHL 75th patch. The Blackhawks were the barberpole style alternates 19 times during the season, interestingly, only twice at home.
- The team wore one set of TBTC jerseys for most of those games and many exhibit heavier wear. This set of jerseys was either given to the players, or they took them at the end of the year as they were not sold by the team. Very few jerseys from this set are found in the hobby.
- A second TBTC set of jerseys, believed to be a backup set, was found when the team was moving out of the Chicago Stadium and into the United Center. This set of jerseys exhibited light wear, and were likely worn only for a game or two. This set was sold out of Hawkquarters in 1997 with team LOA’s and sports registry stickers inside the jerseys.
- A second, non-glue set of jerseys was worn in the second half of the year and contained a separate size tag. This set was used into the playoffs.
- When the Hawks made the Stanley Cup Final, the team did not remove the 75th patch. Instead, they sewed the 1992 Stanley Cup Final on a piece of Ultrafil material slightly larger than the 75th patch and in about the same shape and sewed that material over the 75th patch. The Penguins did the same.
- Team Letters of Authenticity (LOAs) were issued with the jerseys when sold. These LOA’s were signed by Mike Keenan.
- Due to recycling and having a set given the Final patch, 75th patched jerseys are somewhat scarce.
- Notably, John Tonelli wore an older flat faced crest jerseys.
- Several fake 75th patched jerseys were made up out of the Windsor area in this era of star Hawks players – Roenick, Chelios, Belfour, Larmer… these jerseys feature manufactured game wear and team repairs. Some even with forged Blackhawks LOA’s. Be careful and be sure to photomatch!
