Notes:
- These jerseys are nearly identical to the 00-01’s, with the border around the Indian head slightly narrower.
- The team introduced set tagging in the form of patches sewn into the rear hem of the jerseys after the season, prior to their being sold through Hawkquarters. The red & whites were tagged 1 of 2 for set one, 2 of 2 for the 2nd set. The alternates were tagged 1 of 1. This style of tagging is used through the 08-09 season.
- Koho appears on the backs of the reds and black sets. The Hockey Company had a league-wide contract for jerseys from 2000-2004 and did all team’s jerseys. They owned both the CCM & Koho brands.
- In 01-02, the team marked numbers behind the NHL shield, both a 3 & 4 on the whites and reds. The alternate black jerseys did not have anything written behind the shield. There does not seem to be any pattern to the 3 & 4 as they are found on both colors from both sets.
- Nothing written inside 02-03 & 03-04 jerseys behind the NHL shield.
- It is unknown if a new set of jerseys was used in the 01-02 playoffs. If they were, they seemingly were recycled the next season as they have not surfaced in the secondary market. They may have continued wearing the 2nd set jerseys.
- 01-02 is the last season for the City Sports Letter ‘price tags’ on the inside of the jersey. On them is a numeric code that helps to identify what the jersey is. In 99-00, the code began with the year followed by the jersey number: “99009222” translates to 9900 (99-00 season) 92 (player number - Nylander) 2 (1=white, 2=red, 3=alt) 2 (set 2). These tags sometimes fell out of the jerseys due to washing, or in some instances cut out by the team with a razor blade. In either case, the square piece of tape remains with a price sticker-sized hole in the middle.
- The black alternate was worn for 13 games in 01-02, 14 games in 02-03 and 13 games in 03-04.
- The league had all the team captains wear a Hockey Fights Cancer (HFC) patch for one game. Those jerseys were then auctioned off on NHL.com with the proceeds going to the HFC charity. Tony Amonte’s jersey was patched in 01-02, and Alexei Zhamnov in 02-03 and 03-04. The 03-04 is pictured on this page. This practiced continued from 00-01 to 03-04, then again in 07-08.
- Three neck tagging variations have been seen as well as two hip tagging variations.
- Starting in 92-93 and continuing to 02-03, the Hawks LOA's contained the phrasing "This letter certifies that your jersey is an authentic game jersey issued to...". This phrasing has caused quite a bit of confusion to collectors as a Game Issued jersey is considered to be a jersey made up by the team, but not worn by the player. In this case, the Blackhawks are not using this phrasing in that manner, they are simply stating this is the jersey they gave to the player to use. The term Game Issued was likely not even known to whomever wrote the letter template. All the letters in this era contained this phrasing, so a 30+ repair jersey had it as well as a light wear jersey worn once.
- All season noted featured a Shirt Off Their Back Night (SOTB) or Fan Appreciation Night jersey being given out to ‘random’ attendees of the last home game of the season. This practice continued until the early 2010’s. In some years, the jersey contained special tagging, the 03-04 jerseys are confirmed to have a Fan Appreciation set tag similar to the patch sewn in the other jerseys in this era. In all letters that have surfaced that came with these jerseys, they are worded “Congratulations on winning…” rather than “Congratulations on purchasing…”. The Hawks typically wore a new set of jerseys for the SOTB promotions, although there may have been a season or two where they were worn longer.
- Hawkquarters continued their practice of selling “Locker Room Jerseys” around this time. If there were jerseys that originated from the Hawks locker room, but they were not sure what set it was part of, or if it was a backup jersey, etc, it was sold without an LOA at a discount. Some great deals came out of the Locker Room section as many had solid wear and were later photomatched.
