Notes:
- The team again sold jerseys at the Convention and sold via various gameworn groups and email lists. The Helsinki jerseys were sold, but a very limited number of regular season, alternate and backup Stanley Cup patched jerseys were sold. The team retained many of the 09-10 regular season jerseys and have not sold any jerseys actually worn in the 2010 Final.
- The Hawks opened the season playing in Helsinki, Finland. They played two preseason games in Switzerland vs HC Davos & ZSC Lions (one as home team & one road) wearing the Helsinki patched jerseys. The team then wore the same jerseys in the first two games of the season vs Florida in Helsinki, again one as home and one as the road team. So both the red and white jerseys were potentially worn for 2 games, one preseason and one regular season.
- The Helsinki jerseys had an ‘E’ written in the neck by the training staff. These sets also have a special serial numbered set tag denoting them as the ‘Premiere 2009 Set’.
- The regular season jerseys typically have 2009-10 and a 1 or 2 written in the neck to denote the set. Some jerseys may not have the writing in the neck, particularly if they were not on the roster to begin the set. They also have serial numbered set tags with the C & crossed tommies.
- The Hawks wore a set of black alternates similar to the Winter Classic jersey worn at Wrigley Field the year prior. Key differences are the neck tie-down is now a tan color and the shoulders now have a C and crossed tommies in the color scheme of the alternate jerseys. There was one set worn for the season and they were worn in 10 games.
- The Hawks wore a new set of jerseys denoted ‘P-10’ in the neck. These jerseys were worn throughout the playoffs and into the Stanley Cup Final where they were patched. The 2nd set of regular season jerseys was also patched as a backup in case they were needed. A few of the backup jerseys or jerseys for players who did not play in the Final have been sold by the team. The Eager backup jersey is pictured below.
- The Hawks won the Cup in the white jerseys and the players were given the white Cup-winning jerseys by the team. The red jerseys used in the Final (and some backups) were given to the players to wear at the Cup parade. They were supposed to give them back after… however most did not make it back and were also kept by the players. Of note, several players sung the 7th Inning Stretch at a Cubs game in the days after the parade and a couple guys tossed their jerseys into the crowd. Those are likely the only Cup Final jerseys worn in games that are not in the player’s or team’s hands.
- The Cup jerseys that the team did have after the dust settled were given Stanley Cup Final serial numbered set tags. This is the only season of the three recent Cup Final teams where special set tagging was used.
- Hawks goalies had 3 jerseys issued to them and they change between periods. They wear the same 3 all season. A few other players also wore multiple jerseys per set – Jonathan Toews starting wearing three jerseys around this timeframe.
- The team held a season ticket holder party in December at Navy Pier. For the first couple events, a handful of game worn jerseys were auctioned. These jerseys typically did not feature set tagging and the LOA’s were different from the traditional Hawks LOA’s, some being hand-written on a form letter.
- A Shirt Off Their Back Night (SOTB) or Fan Appreciation Night jersey being given out to ‘random’ attendees of the last home game of the season. This practice continued until the early 2010’s. In some years, the jersey contained special tagging, the 03-04 & 08-09 jerseys are confirmed to have a Fan Appreciation set tag similar to the patch sewn in the other jerseys in this era. In all letters that have surfaced that came with these jerseys, they are worded “Congratulations on winning…” rather than “Congratulations on purchasing…”. The Hawks typically wore a new set of jerseys for the SOTB promotions, although there may have been a season or two where they were worn longer.
