Notes:
- The Sandow jerseys were not ready for the beginning of the season. The exact date of their first use is unknown, but the whites were confirmed to be used on Oct 28 1981 vs Winnipeg. Previous to that date, they were not worn on Oct 21, 1981.. So the white jerseys arrived for use potentially in time for the Oct 25 game vs St Louis or for the Oct 28 game. The reds are confirmed on 12-3-81 in Colorado. Looking to confirm earlier dates.
- Jerseys from these sets are two pieces hemmed together. Story I’ve been told is the jerseys arrived too long, so they were sent back to Sandow to have material cut out below the crest but above the stripes and sewn back together. This may explain why the team wore the previous season’s Coane jerseys in the meantime.
- The numbers on this set of jerseys were the dazzle material. The crests remained non-dazzle.
- Jerseys had the Manufacturer name SandowSK, but not Gunzo’s on the rear hem for this set.
- SandowSK on the regular season jerseys is black on nearly all of the examples found. A Photo and Video matched Secord has surfaced with only red SandowSK on the rear hem. A photo of Dupont also with a red SandowSK on the hem has also been found.
- Small cloth fight straps are found on those set.
- Jersey material was a very lightweight Dureen, much thinner than the previous Coane or next season’s Sandow
- At least three players, Higgins, Paterson and Crossman, wore ‘reverse tomahawk’ jerseys as evidenced in a pic found in a Wayne Gretzky pictorial biography and the post cereal set. The reverse tommy set in 87-88 is infamous in Hawks collecting... but as can be seen in the pic, did occur on other occasions.
- In the playoffs, the Hawks wore a new set of jerseys with red Gunzo’s and Sandow SK on the rear hem. These were not mesh jerseys, so it’s believed this set was recycled for the 82-83 season. This is the first time Gunzo’s appears on the hem.

Note the red SandowSK with no Gunzo's on the Dupont jersey. The reverse tommy Higgins is right next to him as well.
