Notes:
- First set is likely recycled from the 88 playoffs and features Gunzo’s on the rear hem. This is the last time Gunzo’s appears on the Hawks game worn jerseys.
- Team switched sets in early January. They wore the red Gunzo's set for the last time on 1-7-89 at Washington. The next road game, 1-12-89 at Buffalo, they had the non-Gunzo's set. The white Gunzo's set was last used on 1-1-89 vs Toronto. On 1-4-89 in an exhibition game vs Dynamo Riga, they switched to the white non-Gunzo's set.
- Most of the 87-88 & 88-89 jersey sleeve numbers touch the top stripe on the arms. In the 1989 playoffs, the team was issued new jerseys with the sleeve numbers off the stripe. It's believed these jerseys may have been then reused in the 89-90 season.
- Most of the second set (non-Gunzo) had triple stitched necks for the first time. Some guys may have been wearing older stock, but the triple stitch neck is standard going forward.
- Roenick famously scored his first goal in a jersey with no nameplate.
- Two players (Jim Playfair and Duane Sutter) were issued jerseys where the entire crest was made of tackle-twill, rather than featuring the chain stitching that has been used on Hawks crests dating back to the 1950’s. I have heard that these were used as an experiment, however, Milt Byron of Byron’s Hockeyland believes the team was likely short of proper jerseys from CCM, so they had to scramble and use whatever they had on hand... in this case these goofy crests. The shoulder tommies are the standard chain stitched variety. Luckily, the crests were not used after. Some of these tackle twill crest jerseys were evidently sold as authentics through Gunzo's as they are occasionally seen on fans in the stands and one was famously worn by Chevy Chase in the National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation movie.

1-7-89 at Washington with Gunzo's on the rear hem.
Have to look close, but Gunzo's is on the hems on 1-1-89. The game was untelevised, so no real close-ups occurred on the coach's tape.
1-12-89 at Buffalo, no more Gunzo's.
1-4-89 vs Dynamo Riga, no more Gunzo's.
