Notes:
- The League and Adidas rolled out "Reverse Retro" jerseys for each team in the league before the season, in essence introducing a 4th jersey for most teams. The Hawks jerseys is a version of the jersey worn in the early/mid 50's when not wearing the barberpole, but with a black body, rather than a white. The circular "Chicago Black Hawks" crest also appears larger than the Team has worn in more recent usages of the crest such as the 09-11 Alternate jerseys.
- For the Covid- shortened season, the team plans to wear both the reverse retro jersey as well as the black Alt jersey that was worn for the previous two seasons. The Hawks are expected to wear the Reverse Retro jerseys for three games: 2/28/21 vs Detroit, 3/28/21 vs Nashville and 4/8/21 vs Dallas. The black alternates will be worn 4/27/21 vs Tampa Bay, 4/29/21 vs Florida and 5/1/21 vs Florida.
- It should be noted that Patrick Kane scored his 400th career goal in the game the team wore the Reverse Retros for the first time, on 2/28/21.
- All jerseys had the small pocket sewn on the back-shoulder area for the tracking devises used league-wide, as first seen briefly in 19-20.
- As has occurred in recent seasons, most jerseys had the set and year written in the neck - So set 1 for 20-21 = "1 21".
- Due to management turnover in the Blackhawks front office, the sale of the 20-21 jerseys changed from previous seasons and is still evolving. As of SEP22, a handful of 20-21 jerseys were sold at the summer 2022 Season Ticket holder event and shortly thereafter. These jerseys included the serial numbered tagging, similar to the previous few seasons with a preprinted tag and a stamped partial number. However, these were sold with an additional Blackhawks 5-digit numbered hologram applied on the existing tag. The jerseys were prepared initially to be marketed after the 20-21 season and the tags were sewn into the jerseys, but with management turnover, they were archived until the late summer of 2022. When these were sold, they did not come with a team LOA. The team directed buyers to their new "Blackhawks Authentics" website, where you can type in the serial number from the sticker. Link: Blackhawks Authentics | Chicago Blackhawks (nhl.com) This site contains very remedial information about the numbered jersey, including the player name, color or style, and whether or not it is autographed. This site will prove virtually useless going forward as the information contains no specific information on the jersey, such as year, number, size, set, etc. Additionally, all 20-21 jerseys were designated as "Team Issued". To quote the site: "Team-issued items may or may not have been used during a game. Game-used items were seen in use by NHL off-ice officials, Blackhawks equipment managers or the Blackhawks Authentics team. Items may vary from the images shown, as may the amount of wear visible", It should be noted that all jerseys with the sewn in set tags were received from the Hawks Eq staff and tagged as game worn. Several of the jerseys sold as "Team Issued" have been photomatched, so despite the misleading description, 20-21 jerseys with the set tag and usual writing in the neck are game worn. It is unknown if the majority of the game worn jerseys will be sold via retail or auction, stories have varied, depending upon who you talk to. To put it bluntly, the marketing and selling of these jerseys took a major step backwards.
- The wording on the Blackhawks Authentics site was updated to talk more specifically about jerseys. It still leaves much to be desired, the jerseys came from the eq staff, as did the rest of the equipment:
- Team-issued items may or may not have been used during a game. All jerseys sold are noted as team-issued - while they were highly likely to have been used in games, in order to uphold the highest standards of validation, we do not categorize jerseys in this way at this time. Game-used items were seen in use by NHL off-ice officials, Blackhawks equipment managers or the Blackhawks Authentics team. Items may vary from the images shown, as may the amount of wear visible.
- OCT22 Update: The Blackhawks Store on Michigan Ave and the Madhouse Team Store at the United Center have both had limited inventory since the beginning of the season. It seems the Blackhawks Store will only facilitate in-store sales and will not do an phone or internet sales.
- Based on the Blackhawks Authentics site, there were 85 total jerseys initially listed, consisting of 31 whites, 25 black and white alternates, 23 Reverse Retros and 6 reds. It is unknown if more j20-21 jerseys will be stickered and made available at a later date. With players now contractually entitled to a home and road game worn jersey, it is theorized that the lack of reds may be at least partially responsible to this newer requirement. Although, it would seem most reds are missing from this inventory.
- APR24 Update: A limited selection of jerseys from the 2020-21 season are being sold by the Hawks at the Blackhawks Store on Mich Ave, and the Madhouse Store at the United Center. Additional jerseys were sold via auction throughout the season via the Blackhawks Charities auction site. Jerseys are also still available at the Blackhawks Authentics link on their website.
